Block Island, Rhode Island
Block Island, designated one of the twelve "last great places in the Western Hemisphere" by Nature Conservancy, is just twelve miles off the coast of Rhode Island, and is said by some to be a step back in time, a reminder of an era long past. It has retained the charm and appearance of the Victorian age. The informal and relaxed atmosphere make it an escape from the demands and pressures of everyday life. Its beauty is unsurpassed with miles of stone walls crisscrossing the gently rolling hills; narrow winding roads leading to clean sandy beaches and sparkling clear water.
Visitors and residents alike enjoy hiking, swimming, bicycling, fishing, kayaking and bird watching. Some choose to just relax under an apple tree and read a good book. In any case, one leaves the island feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
